Etiquette has picked up a variety of reviews and reactions.

Claire Sawers of The List gave it 4/5 . . . “Those clever Edinburgh FOUND boys have done it again. Their latest music-meets-art installation is a hands-on delight, making even the most tone-deaf feel like musical geniuses.” . . .

. . . while Create Digital Music say “what’s nice about the Etiquette is — surprise — the music. Rather than predictable electronic sounds, Etiquette echoes and vibrates with laptop-sampled acoustic timbres, such as stand-up bass, banjo, brass, flute, and even glockenspiel.” . . .

. . . and, on seeing the Etiquette demonstration as a featured video on YouTube, RedceLL1978 had this to say:

“….What? …The hell is this? And how in the hell did it become a featured video.. Wait, i get it.. This is some dude at a mental institution. And he “SEES” things, right? Like numbers, and geometric coordinates, right? HA HA BRILLIANT!!!! (yeah right.) Stop wasting server load.”

But if you’re in town, why not come down to the Edinburgh Sculpture Workshop and judge it yourself?

The Etiquette table in one of its more contemplative moods

Ziggy plays the table. Throughout the day, the “mood” of the table changes and along with it the types of sounds, music and tempo it plays. Here it is being quite relaxed…

Opening Night

Last night was the opening night of Magazine 07 at the Edinburgh Sculpture Workshop and the unveiling of the Etiquette installation. We were all very happy to see and hear that it actually worked! It was great fun to watch people’s different responses to the installation – there was a such a wide variety of ways in which different people interacted with it. I’ve uploaded a few images of the finished table in action, click on the images to see more. Video clips coming soon.

Thanks to everyone who came along to the opening, and cheers to Anthony Schrag for joining in our improvised performance. It was a great night.

Etiquette CD / exhibition invite

We have produced a 4 track CD which is being sent out as the invite for the opening night of Magazine – Saturday 4 August, 6 – 9 pm. The CD is an introduction to the audio installation which will be housed in the Edinburgh Sculpture Workshop for the month of August (Exhibition opening days: 5, 9–12, 16–19, 23–26. Opening times: 11 am – 5 am).

If you would like to get your hands on a copy of the CD, we will have a small number to hand out at the opening where FOUND will be giving a special music performance. There after the music will be available as a free digital download from this site.

Musicians who have contributed to Etiquette are: Ziggy Campbell, Anna Claybourne, Dave Ford, Paul Gilbody, Bobby Perman, Tommy Perman, Alan Stockdale, Gavin Sutherland, Zero, and the Edinburgh Sculpture Workshop Ensemble. Thanks everyone!

Invitations sent to pressing plant

Invitation CDs have been completed, showcasing some of the music and sounds that will make up the installation (although what the audience will hear will depend on how they interact with the table). Everything has been recorded in the sculpture workshop and its grounds including some of the sounds of the table itself being constructed as well as ongoing work by other artists in the workshop.

The four-track EP will be sent out later in the month and tracks will appear online in due course.
